Distilling Astrology

About

Carl

Welcome. My aim is to ignite curiosity, provide useful guidance and demystify concepts by sharing my [random] thoughts and time with others, infused with the unique perspective, wisdom and wonder of astrology.

I'm a restless seeker and student of astrology. Most notably Evolutionary, Hellenistic, Medieval, Vedic, Magi and Uranian astrology. They all have something valuable to say and many times in totally unique and intriguing ways.

But when rubber meets the road and its time to sit with someone, I'll narrow it down to one kind of system appearing earlier in that list. I value curiosity over dogma and tend to question any astrological teaching that begins to feel like intentional ignorance.

My astrological journey began in 2018 when I reached an unexpected breaking point in life. All work towards others' dreams and little to no play can really lead to some negative downsides, especially when your values don't align. And I found a health crisis waiting for me as the prize on the other side.

So while taking enough time off to take a deep breath in, I began to explore more deeply anything that spoke to my curiosity. Philosophy, psychology and esoteric topics spoke the loudest at the time. With each new article or video contributing a nugget of wisdom and a launching point for self reflection. They helped me begin to "know thyself" for real for the first time.

But as I was reading the biographies of famous people of the past, I noticed that many of them were also astrologers. That confused me since astrology was just nonsense yet there it was listed alongside other very respected subjects. Knowing how valuable and limited time is in general, I couldn't understand why anyone would have devoted so much of it into something with no real tangible benefits.

But after some thought, I realized I actually knew absolutely nothing about astrology,  yet somehow I had a strong bias against it. Putting that aside, I began to search online and read some blogs, but I felt unsatisfied by what I came across. So I decided to dig deeper for the oldest text I could find on the subject, almost as if trying to find the earliest version of the bible possible, undistorted and undiluted.

I ended up finding Claudius Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos and while I couldn't understand most of it, I saw for myself that there was much, much more to astrology than I was aware of. That spiked my curiosity just enough to keep me interested and I began buying beginner books and resources to help get me up to speed.

In those early months and years things barely clicked, but I continued forward until the veil began to really lift and I began to really "see" the messages in the chart for myself. What began as a simple curiosity became a passion which granted a new lens to view myself and the world through. And I hope what comes out of here will pass that gift on to someone else.
